An Historical Value

The “Falaise Rouge” has a rich historical value for the fact that it was the French observation post, led by General Decaen, during the ‘Old Grand Port Battle’, which occurred in August 1810. This naval battle, remained famous owing to the fact that it was the only one won by the French over the English navy during Napoleon’s reign.

Several engravings, ancient maps and historical documents’ excerpts displayed on the spot relate extraordinary moment of colonial history.
Nearby the village of Ferney, La Falaise Rouge is an estate majestically overlooking the bay of “Vieux Grand Port.”

Part of the “Ciel et Nature” set of eco-tourism assets, Falaise Rouge is of high historical value now converted into a “table d’hotes” open daily at lunchtime only, essentially subject to prior reservation.
Some hiking and quad-biking excursions starting at the “Domaine de L’Etoile,” finish at Falaise Rouge for a well-deserved Creole lunch.
