Located at Mahebourg on the coastal road to Pointe d'Esny, this restaurant is all about pure Creole tradition. The setting: a pleasant garden bordered by a stretch of sea, the deco makes use of objects that were part of the ancients' daily life and of course, the menu contributes to that deep island atmosphere.

Created by Alain O'Reilly, a leading local figure who was the pioneer of ecotourism with the famous Domaine du Chasseur inaugurated over twenty-five years ago, "La Belle Kréole" now wishes to pay tribute to the wonderful culinary traditions from this people of Mauritius finding their local origins in the colonial slave-trades.
Indeed, while the word "Creole" originally meant all persons born in the islands, in Mauritius its meaning has evolved to only concern the members of African origin community. Rougail and stews, corn from Rodrigues and coconut from Agaléga are part of the basic ingredients of dishes in this original restaurant.

"La Belle Kréole" is much more than just a restaurant, it is a museum of Mauritian cuisine.
