The extensive 75,000 sq. foot Nira Spa at Shanti Maurice – one of the largest in the Indian Ocean – is built around an enchanting tea pavilion, surrounded by native flower gardens.
Nira Spa’s trained therapists work alongside Shanti Maurice’s nutritionists, personal trainers and Ayurvedic Doctors to encourage optimum health and mental wellbeing, and with 25 treatment rooms, guests have immediate access to indulge in their treatment or therapy of choice.
Nira Spa offers guests treatments from the ancient healing system of Ayurveda, which has been practiced for more than 5,000 years. A Sanskrit word, Ayurveda is derived from two roots, ‘Ayus’ and ‘Veda’, meaning life and knowledge respectively. Ayurveda is a means to vibrant good health, focusing on the prevention of illness and the preservation of life. In essence, the science of Ayurveda aims at treating the body, mind and soul.
Nira Spa features the Africology spa range, an ethical and natural spa range utilising African botanicals. In line with the resort’s wider philosophy, Africology are working with the Nira Spa team and horticulturists to develop a range of unique products and treatments based on the flora and culture of Mauritius. Africology’s products combine the healing essence of plant life with the restorative power of natural essential oils. Active ingredients such as Rooibos, Aloe Vera, Marula and African Potato are combined to help combat the signs of ageing and repair damage caused by harsh environments.
In addition to spa treatments, Yoga is also on offer for guests – with complimentary group classes offered three times daily – while Pilates and Aquafit, a low impact water exercise, are also available. For those that prefer the water, Nira Spa offers the traditional Indian system of thalassotherapy, utilising seawater and its beneficial properties as a form of therapy.
