Ship Models

The history of Mauritius and that of Port-Louis are intimately entwined with stories of the oceans and maritime adventures.  The Citadelle proudly overlooks the Port-Louis harbour which was created by the French in the early 18th century (under the name of Port Nord Ouest).

Both the French and British colonisers relied very heavily on military and commercial shipping to service Mauritius (Ile de France under the French). Many names of seafarers and sailing ships are historically famous in this area of the Indian Ocean.

QETSIA Boutique celebrates the port of Port-Louis and the maritime past of the capital city, by including in its gamut, some finely crafted ship models with vary famous names from both French and British History.  While not all of these ships sailed to Mauritian waters, they have all played a great role at one time of another in French and British maritime history.

Delicately crafted by Mauritian artisans in teak wood, our ship models are perfect gifts to bring back home. We offer these models in various sizes and at very competitive prices.

These ship models represent the talent and patience of our skilled craftsmen who spend countless hours to create faithful replicas of some of the most famous vessels.

Among the models which may be found in our shop is the world renowned St-Geran shipwrecked in the north of the island in 1744, and which gave birth to the story of Paul et Virginie in the brilliant mind of French writer Bernardin de St-Pierre.

Models in the boutique also include the Superbe, the Astrolabe, the Bounty, the Cutty Sark and others.
