What’s to see in Mauritius? |
|
As
a guide, we cannot afford not to stress once
more on the fact that although the beaches and sea remain the
main attractions of Mauritius, the beauty of
the inner country and its lifestyle make this destination more
complete. To discover the island as it deserves to be, it is
essential to get off the beaten tracks and especially out of
the hotels.

On
the other hand, it is difficult for a guide
to recommend specific trips because the magic is revealed in
the way it is visited more than the place visited in itself.
The beauty of Mauritius is hidden in many ways,
first because the most beautiful spots are private properties
or places that are difficultly accessible, secondly because
this beauty is not always perceivable by eyesight.
Furthermore, one same trip can be very ordinary if carried out
in an air-conditioned bus but can be interesting if made on
board a regular bus or when taking time to stop along the road,
walk around and meet people. A trip can be a nightmare if done
by bad whether and can turn wonderful if done at a specific
time of the day when the sunlight switches the colours around.
Going to Ilot Gabriel in a catamaran
is already a way to discover the island differently by looking
at it from the sea but going to the same place in the afternoon
when all the other boats have left makes it a simply unforgettable
trip.
If self-driven outings are not your favourite, we would suggest
taking part in as many excursions
as possible, (other than the bus trips in groups.) The trekking
and mountain-biking excursions are excellent
means of discovering the island as many beautiful spots are
often not well indicated and these excursions can take you inside
magnificent private properties, which are not accessible otherwise.
