We will start by being honest enough to mention that we have
somehow lost touch with the night scene in Mauritius... most
probably because there was apparently not many reasons pulling
us into bars and discotheques...
We nonetheless have some pieces of good news with the re-opening
of the ex N-Gyone nightclub, by far the most nicely decorated
and set nightclub of Mauritius, located on the main road of
Grand Bay.
Nearby, off the main road and... on a public beach site, the
Godfather nightclub opened in May 2009 seems to please the youth.
Still on the main road Grand Bay the ever-lasting "Zanzibar"
refurbished with a new management keeps atop the ratings for
places where the very young to the "not-that-young-any-more"
feel at home in a "clean" environment.
In the same yard near the filling station (by the way facing
our offices,) is the well-known "Banana" open-air bar, very
popular among the "expats" of Mauritius, with their regular
live performances. The Banana has been re-opened after renovation
in July 2009.
The region of Flic-en-Flac on the West coast is the other region
that has been improving a great lot in terms of night-life.
Flic-en-Flac is somehow more fun than its rival Grand Bay as
being closer to the major residential cities of Mauritius, it
is the place to be part of a real mix of Mauritians. Several
restaurants and late-night addresses are found along the coastal
road opposite the public beach. The fact that they are all at
walking distance to each other, makes Flic-en-Flac a lively
place to be as more people walk along the main road from one
place to another.
For those who are not yet aware, we will end by stating that
if the other towns and regions are not mentioned here, it is
because there is nothing or nearly nothing going on; even in
the most important towns...
